*! - I use Zonealarm Pro, which is what that flash demo is demonstrating, ZoneAlarm costs about fifty dollars a
year with updates, but is well worth it, it also comes with spyware weeding software, so there is no need for an application like "Ad-Aware",
"Spybot Search & Destroy" or "Spyware Doctor".

(10/31/05 9:08 PM; SA,Texas): I swapped out my sister-in-laws router for my own router, and she had problems connecting to the Internet.. Because she works from home, she was quite disturbed, even frantic about not being able to access the net to submit some work. Anyhow, I placed her out in the DMZ, thinking that it might be my firewall. Well she had a connection, but would not even listen to me about the risk to her computer, she figured just having zonealarm would protect her. Well later on she and I lost Internet connectivity.. She blew up, I then went back, found I had no connection, and that she had no connection, but I was able to connect to the router with both of our machines.. I determined the Internet was not accessible. So I turned off/on the cable modem, and the Internet connection came back.. While looking at her machine I found there was a program trying to access "MRTSTUB.EXE" which seems to be Malware(w) _ _, or Malicious Software. It may be the case that, due to the thunderstorm today, there may have been an outage of Internet service.. Or it may be that it required me reseting the cable modem.. I do know that router and cable modem need to be turned on in a certain order to allow the router to reserve a IP address, or some such thing.. But its be a heck of a day, three things are wrong here that just complicate explaining this problem to my sister-in-law. They blaim me, because they never had a problem until I swapped out the router. So I instantly become the scapegoat for all the world of problems. But she really didn't care about my other explanations, explanations she deemed as excuses.. According to her, I screwed things up. Well I experienced strange things today to, like my laptop could connect to her machine but her computer couldn't access the net.. I think one last thing I could show to her is that her router was not broadcasting a connection, meaning the laptop was not finding her router, meaning her router could have been compromised.. This makes me wonder how many people are having these problems. How much malware/rootkits/worms/trojans are exploiting vulnerabilities in firewalls and Windows.. Is it just a matter of time before nerdy brothers of the world get alienated by their family members for screwing things up while trying to help, before these botnet(w) _ _s begin being used to greater vulnerabilities like credit card fraud.. But we know this, the guys who are not to blaim are the so-called "Geek Squads", anyone that is perceived as "professionals".. This has made my stay worse, it has tarnished my enjoyment with my brother. They don't trust me now.. If I ever find these rootkit hackers or the guys that created this malware (that I did find on her machine), there is no telling what I would do, enter worse case scenerio here... Litigation? If they say to me "I'm not a bad guy" I would say back to them "no you are a sociopath(w) _ _ inept of realizing your potential to harm, imprisonment is the only solution for you".

What relaly freaked me out, was this, the fact that her machine could have a rootkit(w) _ _ on it, or could be part of a botnet(w) _ _, this matters less to her than not having Internet access.. It makes me wonder how many people are already vulnerable and compromising their control in order to retain Internet access. Allowing someone to collect serial numbers from your software, passwords, credit card numbers and user your machine in coordinated attacks is not worth the risk, there are other ways to handle these problems that more people should have access to.. It amazes me someone hasn't brought massive lawsuits toward Microsoft and Intel for not fixing these problems earlier.. Microsoft will divert blaim until its obvious its a problem with windows, or a problem with the way Windows machines are designed.. Its a knee-jerk reaction.. Until people are able to recognize they have a problem, they will pretend they don't.. They won't even try to learn how their machines work nor how to protect themselves.. And there are plenty of people that can make money off the hysteria without ever fixing the problem.. One way to fix the problem with rootkits is to store say bios and operating systems on ram keys, then write protect the keys upon startup.. And update the ramkey in a Safe Mode on windows.. This way, if the system ever gets comrpomised, the ramkey can be used to boot a safe mode, compare CRC's to files stored on the key.. And since the key bypasses the Master Boot Block on the hard drive, there is no way a hacker could rise above access to it.. The access to the key could be kidden by encryption.. Then it would just be a matter of making this USB-Ramkey more secure, not the hardware or software that runs on Windows. I believe this will be the next step.. The only machines that don't get viruses are embedded designs like Commodore 64's, Microwave Ovens, Devices that use ROM's not Internet accessible firmware like routers. Its just a matter of time before the Operating System designers and hardware manufacturers tumble to this fact, and the world will beat a path to their door.. I bet the Chinese are actively working on this, so as to corner this market.. But this is how I would solve the Virus, Trojan, Rootkit, Worm problems.. Put the Operating System in bootable RAM keys. Note the reason why many devices contain firmware, is to allow the manufacturer to fix bugs in a product's operation environment without a recall.. Like Apple's iPod's have firmware, and on firmware upgrades Apple is able to change things like what DRM iPod's will accept, which they have in the case of Rhapsody's/Windows DRM. This makes it possible for rootkits (possibly) to be installed even on iPods.. Or to allow people to render iPod's useless. The PVR-A1 I bought from Mustek had the problem that its working memory included the firmware, so if the operating system got corrupted in execution it would render the device completely useless. I heard on TWIT podcast that there is a exploit that will turn a Playstation 2 into a "brick" or a door-stop (or made useless), just by puting a CD-ROM in the PS2. This is similar to running a program that does a firmware update on the BIOS of your computer's motherboard. These rootkit attacks and spyware may lead to the use of specially protected ramkeys for running and installing operating systems. The question in my mind is what is keeping Microsoft/Intel from releasing such a fix?

(10/30/05 4:23 PM; SA,Texas): This being my eldest brothers birthday, he got talking about Clark_Terry(w) _ _(r), and I conjured up "Mumbles" and "Mumbles Return" in a small playlist.. This then led me to track down Schoolhouse_Rock(w) _ _, which was non-existent but Bob_Dorough(w) _ _(r) was on Rhapsody, so I have a playlist of his music (no Schoolhouse Rock, but still interesting). Then I decided to convert two Dr._Demento(w) _ _(r)(r) albums (only got about half, but still suprising I could get that much).

(10/30/05 1:35 AM; SA,Texas): Why is iTunes so rudimentary and backward (arcane was not the right word to use) on its Windows GUI? For example, it hogs a heck of a lot of CPU cycles just for managing the User Interface which is no more complex than a website.. What is the refresh rate of the window in iTunes store view? Like about 5 fps? It retarded.. Also why can't I sort on all the columns, like sort by date, sort by file size.. This is functionality that is native to all of windows applications, but not native to iTunes.. Is Steve Jobs trying to tell us something about how retarded Mac's are?

(10/30/05 1:02 AM; SA,Texas): I'm on vacation.. I got a killer idea for a podcast(w) _ _.. You know how coder podcasts just usually don't last because the syntax just doesn't make sense to say over the podcast, or that the topics usually surround a particular topic that nobody, but those interested in that area, cares about? I know something that would appeal to a larger audience of programmers, this is killer..

    Code_(computer_programming)(w) _ _ Wars!!

Give a group of coders a task, allow them to use the language of their choice, then get a set of professional coders(w) _ _ ,and users to test the code, question the coders (anonymously) and summarize the outcome of the war, determine the winning language and approach, then release the source on the Internet. Of course open up the end of the podcast for questions from an audience. The principle focus on the show would be comparing languages, recognizing what makes a language useful, how to select the language, determine what applications work best for which language.. Maybe encourage some amount of agreement and divergence/convergence of platforms and focus.. And above all else to get to the truth and cut through the snobbery. Turn coding into a competitive sport while helping people design better programs.. Of course, later on offer awards for the best solution, allow anyone to enter into the wars, and add constraints like "you can use no more than 100 lines to write this program" or "you have two days to write this and can use any language you like".

The motto of the show, could be: Coding is not an art, it's a Sport!!!

(10/27/05 2:09 PM): Download 1970(w) _ _(r), the year I was born.. This was a pretty interesting year to convert despite the fact that its my birth year.. Look here to see the song list.. Listen to Chicago_(band)(w) _ _ then listen to Simon_&_Garfunkel(w) _ _.. Chicago was like 6 years ahead ( 1976(w) _ _(r) ) of everyone.. Pretty fantastic..

(10/26/05 10:00 PM): Why is Susan_Estrich(w) _ _ so entertaining to listen to? Because really she is Carol_Channing(w) _ _, she even looks like Carol.. I prefer Ryan_Stiles(w) _ _' impersonation of Carol Channing..

(10/26/05 4:47 PM): There is only one album that I work well to, I mean this is the album I listen to while I work, and I seem to work the best with.. That is Yes_(band)(w) _ _, the Fragile(w) _ _(r) album in particular.. True I was only two when the album came out and I really only picked up on it until I was about twenty, and heard the songs years before then.. Anyhow, its just the best.. However, I imagine each person has their own version of a Work Album..

(10/26/05 3:25 PM): I found that ABC_(band)(w) _ _ is planning to release an album sometime this year.. To give people a taste of what this new album might sound like, I stole a few songs (r) from their last greatest hits album.. "Peace And Tranquility" and "Blame". I Love ABC's music, and can't wait..

(10/26/05 12:26 PM): My laptop is having problems today, it stalls just when I'm listening to music or watching video.. Since I'm in the TV room working (yes really!), I decided to see what was on TV, and found Charlie Rose, and looks like he got some big wig from ABC on.. He's talking about the future and what he thinks needs to happen.. The focus it seems to him is on communities on the net, and investing advertising in those.. That is the dumbest idea I've ever heard, because back in the dot-coms we heard communities are not easy to leverage, so VC's stopped investing in them.. The thing to do is create a website for podcasts, and to find advertisers that wish to fund podcasters, then distribute the money across the podcasters according to their attraction (people who have downloaded their podcasts).. Its like a community site because people would go there to download the podcasts, but in a way that benefits the podcasters.. Then you just milk the funding to support the site and pay for your faculty.. See podcasters don't have the time to go looking for the funding, but they need it, it would make it easier for them if the funding came to them.. They are like a community, in that they are not just going to blindly accept any advertisers, they are not going to want to advertise "maxi-tampons" or "camel cigarettes", it should be presented like we have these advertisers, this is what they will pay, and then give the podcasters the option to take on those advertising dollars, then you can monitor their progress by the number of people that download their podcasts from the site. Also the hits that count are unique hits and repeats, there are ways to insure that the hits are fake, like IP address, time difference between hits, show obtained, filename, etc.. I'm sure I could think of other ways to determine uniqueness, but you have to hire me to find out.. $8^)

(10/25/05 1:27 PM): Blech!!! I thought that Toddcast was going to be Todd's thoughts or references to cool stuff on the net, or stuff he deals with every day, but it was basically Todd dictating a radio station full of self promotion, lower quality samples (to protect his cherished sound estate), and music I've heard a thousand times before, including permutations of the "A capella" album.. Oh well, maybe he will wise up.. Todd is not God, he's just a guy who like me is fascinated by technology and music and got into the business of selling it.. I never got that far, I am just a web programmer.. But I am not a big toddite, I have about half the collection of videos and CD's, and one tape.. I'm like Ed_Wood(w) _ _ and Todd is like Bella_Lagosi(w) _ _, while he should be more like Boris_Karloff(w) _ _. I got off the toddcasts, thinking, wow he is so full of himself.. I guess I am, but I don't expect anyone to read this.. But I was hoping to hear more of him than lots of third-party stuff with soundbytes in "8-bit PCM El-cheapo Hundred Dollar Yamaha from K-Mart" format. Todd you can sell albums with more channels can you not? Plant more mic's in the studio, let people make their own albums from multiple mic's.. The reason your CD-i title sucked is it was one CD with a bunch of soundbites.. For me the ultimate album would be being able to walk through a studio with a headtracking system on and listen to the guitar, bass, etc.. Maybe even see the studio in 3D, kinda like something out of Ghost_(movie)(w) _ _.

(10/25/05 3:39 AM): I should have known, Todd Rundgren has his own podcast.. I wonder if he plays any bootleg Utopia on it... Anyhow, as you know I spent most of last night just converting all the Utopia and Toddrundgren bootlegs into a LP format, just by going through albums and collecting cover-tunes, and such into probably the closest you can get to Todd_Rundgren(w) _ _ and Utopia_(rock_band)(w) _ _, next to downloading his podcast, but I'm sure that is quite a different thing.. Half the fun of listening to Todd is that he's one of the first few Hackers of audio technology and video technology, like all hobbyists, he likes to be on the edge of each new thing.. Just as he was with the Video Toaster.. How I came in contact with his music was when my eldest brother played for me Todd's Acappella CD. I was hooked.. I now have several of his albums, including the Anthology, Nearly Human (which has his version of Two Little Hitlers, a Elvis Costello song), 2Nd Wind, Something/Anything, Keeping the Faith (??), I forget all the album names, I also collected Utopia's albums, like Deface the Music, Opps Wrong Planet, Trivia.. I just like that early 80s synth music.. Reminds me of stuff I used to listen to in the Arcades while playing video games. Fun music.. He was caught up in love songs, probably because the record companies wanted it, but he was in it for the fun and techiness of it.. He's a real music nerd.. Of course, I must not forget that he didn't get into computers and synths until Roger Powell turned him on to it (read a Keyboard_Magazine(w) _ _ from 1987(w) _ _). Acapella was nothing but Todd and a Emulator_III(w) _ _ (like the one in Ferris_Bueller's_Day_Off(w) _ _, but I think that was a straight Emulator_II(w) _ _ or something).. When I was 16 I really wanted a E-mu_Emax(w) _ _. These days your Soundblaster(w) _ _ Live! could kick any of those Samplers/Synths asses.. Its amazing to me why I don't hear much melodic and well orchestrated music like Todd's stuff.. I guess te music industry is not the industry it once was.. Note, I was into Amiga(w) _ _'s since 1987, and was into Todd before he ever even touched the Video_Toaster(w) _ _, so it striked me as bizarre too that I would also happen to get into Computer Animation within stones throw of a class taught by Brad_Carvey(w) _ _ who designed the Toaster.. Brad, who lives in Albuquerque, was probably who sold Todd his Toaster. Its really strange to know how all the world is connected, that 6th degree of seperation thing.. However I don't know Kevin_Bacon(w) _ _..

(10/24/05 12:27 AM): Looks like INXS is looking for another singer, or have found him.. I liked INXS's first sound before they got popular.. That's usually the case, with me.. I liked Madonna with "Borderline", but couldn't stand anythign after that.. It always seems that the musicians get something going that is good but then screw it up.. I never bought one Madonna album to this day.. I bought Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall", pre-plastic-surgery.. If you could store talent in a bottle.. Not to be sold out, but if you could.. The_Rolling_Stones(w) _ _ are going back to their old sound (r), and they sound really really good..

(10/24/05 12:07 AM): The UN is trying to own DNS service is all non-US areas, I have heard.. This is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.. You know this will backfire if DNS is made more dencentralized, especially int eh european nations.. Just owning control over DNS is not the solution to the problem.. Anyone can have a DNS host, you can refer to anyone to resolve domain names.. Its really just a matter of popping in a domain name and having it resolve to an IP address.. Now if the Un tried to take over the assignment of IP addresses, that would be even more insane.. All we would need to do is go to IPv6 or something higher, give each country a subnet of IPv4.. I don't really know what IPv6 is anyhow, it sounds like they just extend the port addresses into the address space, because if you had 16-bits of extra address space to the Internet's 32 bits, you have 48 bits.. Maybe I'm thinking V6 means 6 bytes of address space.. If its 64 bits, that means for each IP address in IPv4 there is a potential of 4 billion subnet addresses. And of course you create extended IP addresses and DNS by referring to IP addresses in other domains as proxys.. Like give me Google.com in the American address space. I have a feeling it will backfire on the UN is some way they will have never predicted, I mean it could become decentralized and even more uncontrollable.. Imagine DNS resolution by HAM radio with Proxified address space like I mention.. Or maybe a server that serves up proxies as temporary DNS and routers of traffic.. Note Usenet was connecting continents long before the Internet, all you need is a telephone line and UUCP. China will fail miserably, same with Saudia Arabia.. Remember, the Internet was designed to evade a nuclear attack.. Oh yeah, I had heard that someone figured out how to use weather balloons to transmit Internet signals, with the potential of using as few as four to transmit over the UK.. Imagine the money Saudia Arabia would have to spend to shoot down all the Weather Ballons in the stratosphere..

(10/23/05 11:45 PM): If you are an original subscriber of Rhapsody, you can obtain version 2.1 of Rhapsody from this site. It has the added feature of allowing you to save your playlists to your computer, something that is disallowed in Rhapsody version 3.0+ .

(10/20/05 10:04 AM): Kerrville (I think this is the one) is northwest of San Antonio, my brutha bren lives in SA.. Anywho, Kerrville is like South-West of Fredericksburg which is a bit of a transplant from Germany, its like a european town (I've been to Amsterdam, its like Amsterdam), way out in the middle of texas.. It was said that some people in Germany, somewhere, purchased a bit of land in Texas, I guess when Hitler was in power.. The idea is all these people from some sub-area of Germany would move there if times got tough.. Anyhow, I have some music here from Kerrville(w) _ _.. Rhapsody's people just put up some albums: Women of Kerrville and Kerrville: The End of the Century (rhapsody playlist).

I went to google, popped in the name "Kerrville, TX" and it showed me a map.. I then found its proximity, and thought, that must be where it is.. Somewhere northeast of San Antonio, out there in the boonies.. This is like north-houston, where all the tall trees are.. But around San Anotnio its all hilly because its like curled limestone deposits (scraped-up-ocean-floor, now you know why there is so many Archeologists/Geologists in Texas).

(10/20/05 8:55 AM): This is getting monotonous, I'm close to changing my platform, I've decided to do all my work on my laptop offline and do everything else online on my PC that keeps getting hacked.. Thanks Bill Gates for making the worst and most hackable platform over the years.. We all knew Windows sucked and continued to, now its reaping the benefits of all its sewn suckiness.. Note there is so much wrong with Windows, internally, externally, perceptively, socially, its not even funny anymore.. And I mean that!! Its just a miserable waste of time and money..

I'm salso starting to think that the hack ins haven't anything to do with Windows, that is could be software I'm installing:

    • Filezilla
    • firefox
    • gvim
    • Battlefield 2 (which requires one to run it in admin mode)
    • avg free
    • zonealarm
    • ati catalyst drivers
    • creative labs "live!" drivers
    • rhapsody "listen.com" version
    • Thunderbird
    • Winmerge
    • Windows XP SP2
    • I've deinstalled Messenger and NetMeeting (so they shouldn't conflict).
    • AMP ( Apache, Mysql, PHP)

Other possible thoughts is it could be my BIOS (firmware upgrade from a hacker? that would be a nightmare). Another possibility, The installs of XP I have could be counterfeit and contain installs of rootkits in them. When I delete and reconfigure partitions on my hard drive it doesn't erase and rewrite the MBR (I need a MBR tool to fix the MBR if its corrupted).. Can't be coming through the firewall, however my firewall is registering all sorts of DoS attacks, I get about 3-5 every 10 minutes. Zonealarm doesn't catch anything incoming anymore, good hardware firewall.. Outgoing stuff does get caught.. The only thing I can imagine is someone is hacking my machine while I'm playing Battlefield 2, because of its access requirements.. I tried running BF2 as a normal user (not an admin) and it would not work (I think punkbuster requires the permissions of an admin to work, that's how I knew in the past couple of days that I got hacked again, my account was demoted to a regular user and BF2 stopped working.. Also I noticed the same programs registering in Zonealarm, the no-name programs with gibberish for program names and the paths that lead nowhere.. I should screen capture this stuff and put it up so people know what to look for.. I have a feeling the last service pack for XP just opened up a whole new can of worms, trojans and vulnerabilities.. You can't really sense a rootkit because by definition its designed to hide from you, so the better it can hide, the better it is a rootkit.. Also rootkits, I believe, are individualized attacks, they are half bots and half human, the bots hacks through half way and the hacker hacks through the rest, sets up the kit and uploads code, and gets working.. If it wasn't for the fun games, it would not be worth anything.. Linux and MAcOsX are by far better development platforms as a result. Do work with Linux/Mac, do fun with Windows.. Who can actually use Windows for work anymore?

(10/18/05 9:10 PM): I am adding playlists that reflect the use of particular synthesizers, starting with the Yamaha_DX7(w) _ _(r), New England Digital Synclavier(w) _ _(r), and Fairlight_CMI(w) _ _ (r). I noticed there is a whole podcast devoted to Commodore 64 music remixes, hey that doesn't sound like a C64, but this does.. I hope to find some musical examples using the Ensoniq chips, especially the one found in the Apple_IIgs(w) _ _' which supposedly had 32 voice polyphony (rare for computers in the 80s, the IIgs was released in 86 BTW, the Fairlight_CMI(w) _ _ Series II was a 16 voice 8-bit sampler from 1983(w) _ _, yes I lusted after a Apple_IIgs(w) _ _ up until I found out the main processor was a 65816_Microprocessor(w) _ _, slower than the Motorola_68000(w) _ _; that's what determined my purchase of an Amiga_1000(w) _ _ over a Apple_IIgs(w) _ _. I think Steve_Jobs(w) _ _ was paying too much attention to the distinction between the Mac's and the Apple-II line, but I recall that the Apple_II(w) _ _ division was discontinued, I guess this is why).

9 incompatible versions of RSS, Isn't XML(w) _ _ fantastic (sarcasm). This is why people shouldn't be using XML as a file format, in fact the file format shouldn't be a file, it should be an object with accessor methods.. Please continue to shoot your head and feet with holes, here I will aid you with a BFG.

And I continue to push my Object File Format idea.. If I'm insane, prove me wrong consider this idea.. Take a XML file store code in it, execute the code and interact with the XML file like an object. Its just a method of abstraction and extension without incompatibility.. People make stuff incompatible sometimes for purpose and sometime out of ignorance, XML encourages incompatibility by design. Its just yet another phase of mass stupidity..

Another phase of mass human stupidity is traffic jams, due to lack of space between cars (buffer zones), I propose GPS'/radio in every car an laws in place to command people on ways to avoid jams by keeping proper distance from neighboring vehicles. People are greedy, they fill up the space thinking it will put pressure on those in front to move.. It only produces a jam.. Its a matter of interpersonal distance, of keep rules in place that govern interpersonal space.

Its like playing battlefield 2, those infantry that keep distributed don't get artilery dropped on them, the rule I give people sometimes, which they can't hear over the dropping bombs, is if you can see your friend, stay a hundred feet from them to avoid becoming a target for the enemies commander.

Yes the answer to all the worlds problems is atomic relationships and object oriented design. Well it is!!

    1. Security holes in Windows yield rootkits.
    2. Security holes drive me to reinstall Windows many times.
    3. Find out that after 25 reinstalls I'm forced to validate my license with Microsoft over the phone (a 20 minute affair).
    4. Have to upgrade Windows after install for about a couple of hours (requires a highspeed Internet line).
    5. Am unable to deinstall Windows Messenger until Service Pack 2 is installed (as Microsoft made impossible for people to uninstall Messenger).
    6. I also have to disable services like (gotoMYpc-like) Remote Desktop Access, Net Meeting, and then remove the roles that come preconfigured with Windows XP Pro.
    7. Set permissions on files, directories, to guard against next rootkit attack..
    8. Setup a hardware firewall with router capability..
    9. I deinstalled my other drive because I determined that the bootblock may have been corrupted by malware. (I'm going to get a usb accessible external hardware enclosure and stuff the drive into that, so it won't be bootable, but I can access it.. Note the bootblock can store code and does contain the partition information.. The first block of storage (about 4K in windows) store the partition table and a pointer {called a vector} that directs the computer to the first piece of code to execute, to boot the operating system). (note: read up on Booting(w) _ _ on wikipedia).
    10. Windows' "svchost.exe" allows servers to run without a trace or reference to the service that its running. There are five such processes that are always running on Windows and there is no way you can know what they are..

(10/12/05 12:33 PM): Somebody help me, there's a hole in my ahea, Ah wow ah wow ah wow wow wow..

Here is a playlist I made of Talking_Heads(w) _ _ covers, along with some cloned heads..

(10/10/05 10:48 PM): I think I'm going for the record of the worlds longest blog.. Anyhow, it makes searching my blog easier, but that's not the reason I'm doing it, its that Google is caching the whole thing.. I wonder what their page cache limit is.. That isn't the reason either, just curiousities.. The real reason is laziness and ease.. Yeah this is easier for me.. Also its tough to hack a site that doesn't have a low level web based user interface.. Easy to backup too.. Anyhow, Howard_Jones_(musician)(w) _ _ has a new album on Rhapsody (r) AN IT IS REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY COOL.. I haven't heard anything this cool and 80s like in a long long time, I guess ever since I got Thomas_Dolby(w) _ _'s "Flat Earth".. This album sounds like real 80s music, he did really well with replicating the style, but its not hard for him, he's an 80s musician..

An idea, Thomas Dolby and Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw and Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, a super group, that would be cool.. Have them trade off on the lyrics and music composition.. Make it like Yes.. I've been listening to a CD about how groups work, and it basically says that more brains work better than single brains, because the diversity of thought can tackle a problem the way no single person can.. You know why the beatles were so good, they could balance their egos (well for a while)..

What I want, take rhapsody mix it with bit-torrent, allow people to burn songs bit for bit from the original master to CD.. The last CD I bought from Rhapsody (ABBA's "Arrival") was the first and the last, the sound quality sucked so much in my car that I will never buy another burn from Rhapsody until that improves.. I would rather buy the original CD's.. But why do I have to wait to get it in the mail, I would love to download it.. I can download a 600MB file in ten minutes.. If I could download a full CD, non-compressed, I would buy CD Burn's from Rhapsody.. I guess it will take the RIAA forever to realize the potential here to make money.. People can always convert things to mp3 and distribute them.. But nobody will distribute the full CD's.. And nobody is going to want to pass around uncompressed songs.. They don't even do it now..

Someone should try it at least..

(10/10/05 10:04 PM): Just when you thought it was safe to go out, the hacker strikes again.. Well the hacker hacked my home account again, I have two firewalls this time, hopefully he can't get through this.. I have a software firewall and a router with a firewall.. It might also mean I can't play video games, I serriously considering getting a seperate computer for games and one for work.. And connecting the games one to the net, and keeping the work on disconnected.. Anyhow, it was the same guy I had in my system with a rootkit as I did a couple of weeks ago when I first reinstalled all my stuff.. I determined a pattern, its probably some of that buffer-overrun exploits, because the program names used in Zonealarm are unrecognizeable somewhat (some are permutations of recognizeable names, like one was named "poration" which is a permutation of "Microsoft Corporation".. One way you can recognize you have a hacker is if you tell zonealarm to set certain permissions for a set of processes, and then later return to find the permissions are set back, this is a sure fire way of knowing, you've been hacked.. But once they are in, they are in, the only way to protect against them is backup your account, erase the drive and reinstall Windows. It has become much easier to backup things with the use of Knoppix Linux CD, with knoppix you can make a backup to DVD-R and confidently erase the drive and reinstall.. It took me about 6 hours to go through the complete process to get back to a semi-working system, enough to modify a blog message on my site.

This really could be in BF2 that this stuff is getting in because BF2 requires a high level of insecurity to allow playability, and its entirely coded by germans, and its owned by EA which probably is corrupt as well (they are in Florida, possibly the same executives as former drug cartels). It could be anyone.. Anyhow, I'll give it another go before I plan on other methods of access.. This really sucks..

If you read my previous entries you might get some hints on how to tell if you've been hacked.. There is also a show on spyware/rootkits from "Security Now" (podcast).

BTW, I don't use Kazaa(w) _ _ (why does Kazaa sound like a soundbite from a budweiser commercial?), well I'haven't installed anything like that in a long time.. The closest I come to P2P is Azureus(w) _ _..

(10/8/05 3:18 AM): Finally found the Twit Torrent Feed (rss), this will make it easier to subscribe to the video feed version of the Twit podcast.. I'm downloading with FireANT(w) _ _, but probably should get a extension for Azureus(w) _ _..

(10/5/05 6:11 PM): I use Cygwin(w) _ _, I doubt very many of you do, but there is this cool feature if you do, that I just now relocated, keep it in mind.. There is a way to right-click on a directory and select "open here", to open a shell in that directory, it saves time navigating to a directory if you have to do some perl script chores or if, as in my case, you have untar(w) _ _ a file in an obscure location, like on the desktop.

(10/5/05 1:15 AM): I'm putting in a torrents directory of torrents that are cool (well some untested, but cool nonetheless)..

These are legal torrents.. A few I have is a torrent to Twit vlogs and KnoppMyth(w) _ _ which I couldn't find very easily.. Read about MythTV(w) _ _.

After reinstalling Realvideo I've determined my realvideo installer tutorial is bogus, Real is digging their grave, I guess they really don't want to be established as cool.. Their entertainment services outside of rhapsody just totally suck and nobody will pay for it, why bother to collect marketing data or bother people with gotchyas.. I wonder how many advertisers/marketers are subjected to their own torture.. This is like living in NYC..

SystmTV, what is this? Oh they tell me what to do with MythTV, cool (quicktime video, via torrent).. Cool Nate, this is what you can do with your PC in your livingroom.. I might do this, if I watched that much TV, but I'm a net video guy, I hardly ever watch TV anymore, but its still cool for people who like watching TV.. BTW, here is the iso image for MythTV (iso CDrom image), I'm downloading it right now.. Like as with any Knoppix ISO Image you will need a CDROM burner, if you have Knoppix(w) _ _ you can use knoppix I think, it has burner software in it, so what's cooler than burning a knoppix distribution with knoppix.. Otherwise you will need Roxio CD burner or Nero6 or something like that..

(10/4/05 4:47 PM): I couldn't help myself, I had to update the 1977(w) _ _(r) rhapsody playlist, among the fixes I added in K.C._&_The_Sunshine_Band(w) _ _'s stuff, and took William Hungs rendition of "Hotel_California(w) _ _" and replaced it back with the original "Eagles" version.. I guess they learned their lesson.. Sorry guys, just hate it when I go looking for a song and can't find it, especially when the Eagles stuff used to be up then disappeared.. I took some retaliated _ with some William_Hung(w) _ _.. Ah its good to hear The_Eagles(w) _ _ again.. Note, if you watch Blues_Brothers(w) _ _ movie, the first guy to jump up from the tables in the jailhouse rock scene is Joe_Walsh(w) _ _, the same guy who does the Guitar Solo in Hotel California..

For those who preferred the old playlist, it can be found in the Rhapsody Playlist directory under 1977b.

Nate, you will probably never see Coffee & Cigarettes (the photos are entertaining enough) considering your NetFlix queue is soooo long, but consider it. (Its Rated R, forget it)

(10/3/05 7:28 PM): On the days that I get bored and am not sure what I'm supposed to be doing, or am having a hard time getting motivated, I fill in a few years of top 100 hits to get inspired. I filled in 1974 and 1968.. Look down below for it, click on the (r) to get the rhapsody playlist, the 1974 (the green link) is a link to wikipedia, so you can see what year that was..

(10/2/05 10:16 PM): Whadayawanabet that this hack on my machine is a paid botnetter for the RIAA to get me to stop posting playlists for rhapsody, or soemthing like that.. Anyhow, hopefully I can keep the guy off.. My router is completely useless, I have to send ti to get it fixed.. Jerks.. Just leave me alone..

I don't pay for music from criminals.
