Say No To Software Patents
Thanks to: JESUS (CHRIST) *, Richard Stallman (AVI, RM, RM2-SP), and the respective creators of these packages and places.

Bag 'O' Tricks Directory lists tips/tricks and reminders and other stuff I would love to clog my header with.

* - Wikipedia is edited by anarchy, don't use for christian inspiration. Christian Bahai is a oxymoron BTW.
*! - I use Zonealarm Pro, which is what that flash demo is demonstrating, ZoneAlarm costs about fifty dollars a
year with updates, but is well worth it, it also comes with spyware weeding software, so there is no need for an application like "Ad-Aware",
"Spybot Search & Destroy" or "Spyware Doctor".
Companies/Organizations I Currently Consider Evil or Stupid:
OnRebate.com sucks!!

Why?: Claims to save time and accelerate processing

but Wastes Hours of Time Submitting Rebate

Offers no Recourse if Rebate Fails!!

INPORTANT!!: On the mad search for good videos, and a good video editor for Ubuntu.. PiTiVi works, but its not really and editor, its a video concatenator.. I plan to do a demonstration of the video editing capabilities of blender, which I think should be the official linux video editor.. It just needs some work, but video editors are too flat and blender adds another dimension that will never be there in any other video editor.. I think the focus is too hard on covering all the formats like WMV, AVI and such.. We can get all those with G-streamer in linux.. Even if we couldn't we'd still have Ogg Theora(w) _ _, which is all the world really needs anyhow.. I think it would be better if the video editors would just focus on editing video and outsource the video format support to something else, because the process of editing video should be as easy as editing audio.. It's just the case, I think that way too much focus is put on editing video formats and audio formats.. Screw that.. You are editing samples of sound and samples color in multi dimensional containers,. if you think about it that way, it all looks easy to work with.. Just that I think the programmers that get into it make it out to be more than it should be.. If they would all just decide on some common format, something that is open source and simple.. It doesn't have to be efficient, just effective.. Then we can build all the stuff in between that needs to be there.. Note, blender 3D already supports Z-buffer based A/B roll stuff and 3DSMax/Combustion video editing would just require a little extra work to add to Blender.. The only thing blender lacks is video to audio synchronization and multiplexing of the signals.. But that can be outsourced to some library that does that best.. I believe this is the next thing that Mark Shuttleworth should aim to support on Linux as it is such a common application on the other platforms, and it is sooooooo poooorly supported on the Linux platform.. And it shouldn't be.. I don't know what the hang up is..

Nice Music Video.. Great computer animation.. I wonder if it is done with blender..

I swear sometimes its amazing the video selection that chann3lz picks.. I saw this first.. Before the following.. Honest Abe!!
    (FULLSCREEN)

What are the chances of chann3lz picking two david letterman videos one after another? About 3176 * 3175 (that's my combinatorics speaking, choose one of 3176 then choose one of 3175, with ordering).. About 10 million.. However, that's just the chances of picking any two videos with 3176 to choose from.. Assuming there is only one of each.. If there are ten videos of each, the chances are increased.

Despite sexual preference, I will listen to any band with good music and the Scissor Sisters are soooooooooooooooooooooo coool.. I watched their podcast and I was sooo impressed that they drew inspiration from paintings.. It makes me want to do paintings again.. BTW, I got a Intuous3 tablet and Art Rage, it isn't a natural medium, but I've got photos of the Chihuly exhibit in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania I attended and I'm using his glass sculptures as a base color from which I can derive an oil painting (but destroying the original forms, so that only the colors survive, I hope palettes are not copyrightable) in art rage.. It's working well..

    (01/15/08 2:31 PM):
    (FULLSCREEN)

Cool song, definately out od the ordinary..
    (FULLSCREEN)

Here is one of my additions, Eddie Grant, same guy that did "Electric Avenue".. I like the lyrics, "How do you feel my love, do you feel it as I walk away." You'd never hear a lyric like that in any other song.. That's why I like Eddie Grant's stuff..

(01/13/08 9:43 AM): Sometimes my eyes get irritated, even when I wake up.. I've found a little bit of a solution, to moisten them up, get the red out so to say.. Make a saline solution at room temperature, and put in a shot glass big enough to cover your eye, and hold it up full.. Works for me.. Like liquid tear..
    (01/13/08 9:32 PM):
    (FULLSCREEN)

if you are trying to wake up look at this video.. Yep, that's a galloping shrimp on a treadmill to curtis mayfield's "move on up"

(01/13/08 2:57 AM): Note, couple of pieces of good news.. VLC Player plays DVD's on Ubuntu Gutsy (Note: on Ubuntu media support, there is word that you can play both HDDVD and BluRay on Ubuntu.. I have to go with VLC to play DVD's on Ubuntu because I'm using Gstreamer.. Also means when I upgrade Miro, I have to make a modification to one of the Video Display python scripts.. I learn a little about Ubuntu every day.. There is something like the registry for Gnome, called gconf-editor.. Miro is supposed to be configurable from there, but it didn't work for me.. I think over time it could be a good thing.. Maybe it should be more object oriented, like allow the configuration to be customized.. Like allowing enumerated types, or special configuration interfaces..
That wasn't the only good thing.. Miro no longer shows watched videos in the "New" list.. This is with the release of Miro 1.1 . Supposedly Mediacoder (??) can run under Wine.. Yeah more options for media file conversion.. I'd like to see if AVS Convert works in Wine.. BEst yet to find a video editor that works in Ubuntu.. As I said any stand alone (read portable) program will run in wine on Ubuntu.. I had other good news but I forgot.. Oh, we got a westinghouse HDTV resolution multifunction monitor, its sucking, so we are going to return it and replace it an Acer or Dell 24".. I think it's the best deal if you want HDTV but don't want a big TV, but want the resolution of a HDTV.. Look at the 24 inch LCD monitors, they are in at the 350 to 450 dollar range.. Perfect..

I saw one like this on chann3lz with Britney Spears - Baby one more time. I like this one better..

    (01/06/08 4:25 AM):

    -----------------------------------------------
This was in reply to a message I received from someone supporting Vista, saying that I should go bak to Vista, on my Toshiba laptop..
    -----------------------------------------------

Well I'm debating it.. But I'm betting Microsoft reverts Vista.. They are just have such a falling out with the consumers that Vista is looking like the worst mistake they have ever made since "Windows Me". It was a purposeless upgrade.. The purpose was to satisfy Hollywood's need for a completely encrypted data bus.. There is a Windows document kicking around that goes into detail about what changed, but the motherboards for "built for Vista" computers, have encryption chips on the motherboard.. And every major graphics card manufacturer was forced to add encryption to their cards, as well as for the sound card companies.. Companies like Sony and whoever headed up HD DVD's, I think were presurring Microsoft telling them that if they didn't do something about about Windows to make it protect copyrighted materials, they wouldn't get support of Blu-Ray and HD DVD.. That would be enough to force Microsoft to do all this to release a new version of windows..

Me, personally, I would much rather buy a Sony Playstation 3 (after spending the New Years holiday playing with friends on their PS3 and 1080P HDTV).. But of course, video and game content is the only thing that Distinguishes windows anymore, the rest can be done on Ubuntu.. That's what I'm using now, and have no regrets..

Screw Hollywood I don't care if they go to hell, they are already going there by their own doing.. Same with Microsoft.. They didn't add anything to the industry that wouldn't have been there without their help.. I had most of the distinguishing features of Window on my Amiga 20 years ago.. Speed and capacity increases because computers are designed fundamentally (in the hardware) to be scaled, just by replicating components. For instance to make a 64bit adder, you just put two 32 bit adders together.. To make a 128 bit adder, you put two 64 bit adders together.. Microsoft just makes API's for hardware people already own..

If you can do this in Ubuntu, without a organized and backed private commercial company, what was the point of getting Windows in the first place?

I'm learning Smalltalk right now, and looking at doing web development with Seaside.. Smalltalk is the environment that Xerox PARC made that inspired Steve Jobs to make the macintosh which Bill Gates subsequently ripped off of Apple when they developed Basic for the release of the Macintosh (Steve Jobs provided all the developers for the macintosh with their own Macintoshes, this is how Microsoft was able to clone the Mac environment).. But neither Microsoft nor Apple replicated the important things of Smalltalk, like the object oriented environment (not for a decade or two), nor the scalable fonts, nor the distributed networking environment. Bill Gates later spinoff of Smalltalk was the NeXT computer.. The MacOSX is FreeBSD based, which is Unix.. Ubuntu is based on Linux, a hacked Unix-like OS. Windows was developed by at least one designer of Vax VMS, a Unix competitor. It really was not designed to be a multi-user environment.. Windows in fact started as a extension to DOS, and Windows NT, was a seperate development that had to become compatible with Windows 98, which led to XP.. Vista is just yet another rewrite of the source code that led to XP, fixing problems that its carried since the Windows 3.1 . And it will likely continue to have problems, because in the beginning it was built wrong.. Unix is about decade older than Windows, and it was running efficiently before MSDOS was even available. Microsoft is a mistake in the making.. I have no interest in supporting their wasteful hacks.. BTW, there was open source development before there was commercial software.. Before the commercialization of software, computers were sold as mainframes.. To reuse existing mainframes, people created and released source code to others free of licensing.. This happened with Unix before it was commercialized by AT&T in the 80s. Before it was offerred for free to universities and scientific institutions.. What led to the GNU Copy Left license is the frustration and limitation of commercialized and closed source software.. Microsoft will continue to make bigger and better hardware, disposing of the old, even though the value in office-style applications haven't improved.. White drives hardware development is games and movies, not office applications.. It's wasteful..

Furthermore, if Ubuntu became a competitor like Firefox has for IE, you'd see more hardware made for Ubuntu as well as games.. If not that, you can always get a game console.. If the game industry and hollywood had their way, every game on the PC would sell for what it does on a console anyhow.. So what's the point?? BEsides games for consoles are designed to squeeze out the best that the console hardware has to offer. Graphics cards and sound hardware, doesn't seem to really do anything better, even with three times the power and hardware..

With more DRM and copy-protection on the PC's it will offer content designers the ability to infringe on consumer rights to sell content in ways that were not possible before the Internet.. The "Pirating" argument is used as a scape-goat, the real intent of the content creators (hollywood) is to control the freedoms of the consumer and make more money off the consumers than would be possible with video cassettes and DVD's. With every new blu-ray and HD-DVD, and video formats of the future, there will come greater attempts to infringe on consumer rights in the interest of making more money.. With video game consoles you at least have a choice of what console makes sense, there is competition.. With Windows you are limited to that platform, and what makes it worse is those who use Windows to do work are forced to repurchase software they already own, just because Microsoft will no longer support XP.. What Microsoft really needs to do is downsize and rethink their goals.. Because its either that or they will learn the hardway.. The consumers will be unforgiving.. Their brand will tarnish..

There are choices, and one of the best and better-thought ones, I think, is Ubuntu.. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a industry backed operating system, but it will.. Just as Firefox web browser is winning a percentage of the market..

Microsoft is digging their own grave..

(01/05/08 10:25 AM): Based on personality/character, I'd rather vote for Hilary or Fred Thompson.. I'm not talking about past, I'm talking about "VIBE".. I don't know how many youth are betting Obama and Huckabee, but its a mistake.. I'd be more on the side of Huckabee, but it seems like Obama is overconfident.. I'm a little biased by Obama's flip-flopping but, then again, its not how one performs in presentation, its how one makes decisions; campaigns only measure how well you can present yourself and on the spur of the moment, how you make decisions.. This is probably not what makes a good president.. I guess sticking to ones guns on each issue is more important, than flip-flopping.. It's easy to flip-flop if one is just trying to be popular.. Well make your best guess, but I doubt Obama is going to be president.. It's like looking at what is popular on youtube, it's not usually the best stuff.. The best stuff usually never gets seen..
